Rick Hals, Commander - I would like to thank the ALR and the SAL for the veterans dinners that they provided, job well done. This is just a reminder that if you haven't purchased a brick for the veteran’s memorial there are forms at the Legion. We will be doing some more remodeling after the 1st of the year, new counter tops and fixtures in the upstairs bathrooms, and new ceramic tile in bar area. In closing I would like to wish all of you a Happy Holidays a great new year. PS the next Legion meeting is Dec. 11th.
Michelle Still, Auxiliary President - Christmas is upon us! As you go about your holiday plans and celebrations, please remember a veteran or military family. It's as easy as dropping a card in the mail, making a phone call, or a neighborly visit. Even a short message or conversation can mean a lot. Our unit will recognize and honor our veterans with our Christmas Parties and other residents enjoy the parties, as well. Our parties are scheduled for Ecumen on Dec. 5 and Bickford on Dec. 12, both starting at 2:00 pm. We serve snacks, give small gifts and the Sunshine Singers will provide music.
Merry Christmas and God bless each of you!
Glenn Pierce, Adjutant - American Legion Veterans & Children Foundation launched Described as “a renewed commitment to the future,” the American Legion Veterans & Children Foundation was established Wednesday to advance the organization’s continuous efforts to assist disabled veterans and military parents in need for decades to come. The American Legion’s National Executive Committee approved a move to have the 1925-established American Legion Endowment Fund do business under a name that more accurately reflects its mission and kicked off an immediate drive to refuel its coffers with a $25 million fundraising goal. Tax-deductible contributions to The American Legion Veterans & Children’s Foundation can be made by visiting www.legion.org/donate.
Orv Otterness, Post Service Officer - Last month the Chisago County Service Officer held a meeting at the Legion Hall for information for the veterans in the area. Fifteen veterans were present and it was a good meeting. He will be having some meetings every third Tuesday of the month unless there is a change. Tuesday, December 18, from 9 to 10 a.m. the CVSO Bryon Brown will be at the Legion Hall again to meet with interested veterans. He will discuss Veterans Issues and Benefits with all those who join him. I recently attended the American Legion Auxiliary’s Christmas Gift Shop for the patients and residents at the St. Cloud Medical Center. The Auxiliary provides gifts for each veteran and also has gifts so that they can select gifts for their family members. One veteran brought his three children with him so they could select their own gifts. This is a great program provided by the ALA Units of Minnesota in all of the Veterans Homes and in the two VA Medical Centers in MN, and in Fargo VA and Sioux Falls VA Medical centers too. What I noticed and realized very quickly is that the veteran patients and residents in these facilities we see today are very young men and women. Please keep them and all of our active duty military personnel in your prayers.
Glenn Pierce, Gaming Manager - Click the following YouTube Link to hear Governor Elect Tim Walz response on the current overtaxing of the State of Minnesota’s charities. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmJsN8Ux4fQ - The second link is the response from DFL chairman Martin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_BR6lUY714 We must continue to let our legislators know we are unhappy with the over taxing of charity organizations if we want to continue the support of our veterans and Community projects that those funds help maintain.
