Rick Hals, Commander - A reminder that Post 85 is having a steak fry dinner on October 13th, starting at 5:00 PM. Also the VFW and Legion are working very hard on the Veterans Memorial,if you or a family member wants to purchase a brick to be engraved with the name of the veteran stop by the Legion and pick up a sign up sheet with instructions and a picture of the memorial.

Remember, if you see or know a vet tell them thank you for their service, they will always thank you with a smile.

Michelle Still, Auxiliary President - As I start a new year with the American Legion Auxiliary, I remind myself why this program is so important. It is obvious to me our government is unable to do enough for our veterans and military service personnel. The American Legion Family supports our veterans and military with many programs and most are available locally. That's you and me.

Please reach out to and thank a veteran or someone in the military. We will be honoring our veterans in our local senior living facilities. Please join us as we recognize Veterans' Day at Bickford Suites on Nov. 8th at 2:00 pm and at Ecumen on Nov. 9th at
2:00 pm.

Orv Otterness, Post Service Officer - Veterans Benefits, have you used any available through the GI Bill? Do you know what they have? There are house loans, school benefits, and many others available, including medical. Check with your County Service Officer who is there to help you.

The American Legion is always working for veterans in Washington DC regarding benefits. The American Legion needs membership to remain viable in today’s world. Our Legislators are always asking how many members we have and why don’t we have more when there are 14 million veterans eligible. Yet, though we don’t have that 14 million we remain the largest veteran’s service organization. Renew your membership, encourage others to renew or to join with us in our service to veterans of every generation. We have an amazing legacy.

Elections are coming up – we need more veteran congress personnel such as John McCain was. We need those veteran comrades who will look for the best benefits for this generation of veterans.

Our Chisago County Veterans Service Officer will be at the North Branch American Legion Post building the third Tuesday of each month from 9 to 10 a.m. to meet with you or just to greet you. His phone number is 651-213-5680. Get to know him. He is knowledgeable and he is here to help you.

Glenn Pierce, Adjutant - The Department of Revenue reminds military members to take advantage of a refundable Minnesota tax credit. The 2014 Credit for Military Service in a Combat Zone expires for most qualifying military members on October 15, 2018. You may qualify for $120 per month or partial month served.

The Chisago County Veteran Service Officer, Bryan Brown, will be at the North Branch American Legion Hall the 3rd Tuesday of every month from 9 AM to 10 AM to discuss available benefits and answer questions on qualifications and application procedures. This month the date is October 16th.

Jill Bigley, Director, North Branch Legion Riders - North Branch American Legion Riders (NBALR) is a volunteer organization dedicated to Veterans (active, retired or disabled), military families, local area families and worthy benefits with other organizations.
As our active biking season draws to a close, I just wanted to talk about a couple of the rides that we were a part of. We rode the Red Bull ride well doing road guard duty. We were also part of the Patriot Ride where we were asked to road guard. Just to name a couple. The NB Legion Riders have taken part in many rides this summer. Some of our members are not only members of the legion riders but also, Tribute to the Troops, Patriot Guard and CSOAF. We are a proud family of Legion Riders and are proud of all of the groups we support.

October 28th will mark our annual Veteran's Dinner. Social Hour will be from 2-3pm with a presentation to follow and dinner. The dinner will be held at the North Branch American Legion. All Veteran's will eat for free. We will also be having a silent Auction. Please sign up in the bar at the legion or call or text Sheli at 651-398-6926 so we can get a head count for food. Come and be part of the experience. There are many thanks to be handed out this day.
