Darcy Doble, Commander - Happy fall and back to school for all of the parents out there! Fall Harvest Festival is coming up the end of the month, so don't forget to enjoy all of the fun happening that weekend, including the S.A.L. omelet breakfast on Sunday. Come and watch Viking games at the club and get chances for drink specials when they score. Everyone have a great Labor Day weekend.

Michelle Still, Auxiliary President - It’s time to gear up for a new year with our first meeting on Sept. 12th at 7:30 PM. The auxiliary unit is the heart of our organization. We conduct mission service opportunities in our community and plan events that assist our veterans and military. Unit meetings help new members make connections with other members and we have fun. And, don’t forget our Relay for Life Team will be at the Almelund Threshing Grounds on Sept. 30th beginning at 2:00 pm. If you have a red, white OR blue item you would like to donate for our silent auction basket, which would be GREAT. You can bring it to our September meeting. I want to encourage everyone to attend at least one unit meeting in the upcoming year. See you soon.

James Hunt, SAL Commander - We are having our Omelet Breakfast on September 24th. There will be sign-up sheets for hours of duty. There will be a Membership drive Saturday, October 21st. We will serve pizza and have awards. All chapters are invited to have a booth. Sunday December 10th we are trying something new! We are planning a tailgate party for the Vikings game. We'll have food and a bartender; all proceeds go to the American Legion (from the bar). The Raffle will be at Half Time of the game. This is an exciting and ambitious time for the SAL and its members.

Orville Otterness, Post Service Officer - I attended the National American Legion Convention in August. It was an historic event when President Trump signed a bill (Veterans Appeals Improvement and Modernization Act) into law on stage at the convention. That bill will streamline the process of veterans appealing claims over disability benefits. It will give easier access to the VA Health Care System. You can check online for details. Since that bill was signed the Harry W Colmary Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2017 has been signed. It is also known as the Forever GI Bill. The new bill is named after the original writer of the first GI Bill. There will no longer be an expiration date. Reservists will count more of their service toward eligibility. There are other good services on the bill – again, check it out online.

Another historic first at the Convention was the election and installation of the first female National Commander. Commander Denise Rohan is from neighboring state Wisconsin. And, there was much distribution of information for next year’s convention which will the 100th Anniversary Convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota – right back where the first National Convention was held! Watch for information during the year on the events planned. There will be a parade which you might like to plan to watch, if not march in it!

Remember if I can help you in any way, my phone number is 651-674-8164. You can leave a message or if no answer, contact the Legion Hall at 651-674-6100.

North Branch American Legion Riders, Post 85 - This has been a weird summer for motorcycle riding; rain and cold are not conducive to this sport. That said, the legion riders have had a busy summer, with various rides and fundraisers. Because of the summer events we are anticipating a great Fall with the 4th annual NBALR Veterans Dinner free to all area veterans and the Fall
Festival in the park. One of our members Alex Bigley graduated basic training for the MN Army National Guards and has moved on to his AIT training base. Alex will be back to the NBALR in the near future, as an MNARNG member. We are all awaiting his return as a soldier, next spring we look forward to riding with him.

Julie Solle, Midsummer Ambassador Coordinator - The Midsummer Ambassadors have had a wonderful August with visits to Stacy, Sandstone, Chisago City, Lino Lakes, North Hudson, the State fair and volunteering at Minnco Credit Union, reading to children in the park and at National Neighbors night out, making a commercial for our Fall Harvest Festival as well as making new friends and promoting our community! The Ambassadors sold raffle tickets in conjunction with Hays Days to help fund the annual trip to the St Paul Winter Carnival. The girls sold over 1000 tickets, good going ladies! Parade season is slowing down and now we have more opportunities for volunteering within our community! We are also planning a Sadie Hawkins dance for Moms/Aunts/Grandmothers and their favorite little boy. The dance will be Friday October 6th at the Legion hall. Funds will go towards the Midsummer Ambassador Scholarship fund. We are still looking for volunteers to coordinate the Ambassador program in 2018! It’s a
rewarding experience that you will never forget! Call Julie for more details, 651-270-3950 or email at
