Post 85 Adjutant Glenn Pierce was awarded the Member of the Year award at the annual Legion/VFW banquet on December 6th 2015. Presenting the award was Commander Darcy Doble, and selection committee chair Jim Johnson.

North Branch resident and Post 85 Legionnaire Everett Pearson received his 70 year membership pin recently. Making the presentation is Post 85 Judge Advocate Orv Otterness (L), and Randy Koivisto (R) Post 85 membership chair.

It's that time of the year again! Post 85 will join with VFW Post 6424 for our annual banquet to be held at the Legion Hall. Social hour is from 6pm to 7pm, followed by dinner, and a short program. Cost is $15 per person, payable at the door. It's a time to recognize outstanding members and those in our community that have contributed to the success we've enjoyed this past year. It's also a time to remember those that have passed away since we last gathered together.

On Friday July 31st, from Noon to 6pm, the Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at Post 85. Every presenting donor will receive a free T-shirt. For an appointment call 1-800-733-2767, or log on to redcrossblood.org and search by zip code 55056. A Drivers License, or a blood donor card is required.

Post 85 is proud to host the annual MN American Legion 10th District Convention. This will be the first time that the event will be held on a single day. We expect hundreds of Legionnaires to attend on Saturday, May 30th. Kicking off with a memorial ceremony, then followed by voting for district officers and passage of resolutions, followed by a banquet in our hall. Our district spans the area from Bloomington to Willow River, and west to Buffalo, included in that area are 53 posts.

Post 85 will be joined again by North Branch VFW Post 6424 for our 2015 Memorial Day ceremonies. Our Schedule for cemetery visits is as follows: Kost - 8:00 AM / Salem Lutheran - 9:15 AM / West Oxford - 9:30 AM / St. Johns Weber - 10:00 AM / Spring Lake Lutheran - 10:30 AM / North Branch Central Park - 11:30.
Our guest speaker this year in the North Branch Central Park will be Mr. Joe Mayne, past national commander of the Sons of the American Legion.

National Commander Helm is a native of Nebraska and no stranger to cold weather, and so he felt right at home visiting Minnesota in February. Commander Helm received a police escort through town, and was met at the front door by the Post 85 Color Guard. Posts from all over East Central Minnesota attended the dinner function, along with Chisago and Isanti County Veterans Service Officers, the mayor of North Branch, Police Chief of North Branch, leader of Beyond the Yellow Ribbon of Isanti County, and head of the Citizens Supporting our Armed Forces. North Branch Boy Scout Troop 141, and the Mid-Summer Ambassadors provided assistance with waiting on tables and passing out smiles. Our own Past National Chaplain Michas Ohnstad was on hand to offer prayers during the program. The MC for the evening was Pat Logan, the Department of Minnesota Membership Director. 2014-2015 American Legion National Commander Helm will be visiting our post on February 3rd . We are hosting a dinner for the event, with social hour starting at 5 pm, followed by the dinner and program at 6pm. Reservations can be made at 651-674-6100. The meal will consist of a choice of ham or chicken, with a price of $16 per person. Please get your reservations in early, as seating is limited.

Past Post 85 Commander Jim Johnson was honored as the 2014 Member of the Year at our annual banquet. Presenting the award is Post 85 Commander Randy Koivisto (on left), Post 85 member and 10th District Vice-Commander Ron Rollins (on right).
Leading the gathering in prayer is Post 85 member, and Past National Chaplain Michas Ohnstad, who is in his 67th year of service to the American Legion.
Our guest speaker was new Post 85 member SPC/4 Eric Trudeau of North Branch, who is a current member of the MN Army National Guard. He recently completed his second tour of SW Asia where he survived an RPG attack and IED explosion. Specialist Trudeau is still in recovery and his inspirational speech received a standing ovation at the end of his presentation.
During the program, members that have passed away in the last year were honored by the reading of their names, and the playing of “Taps”. Post 85 Bugler and 58 year member, Roger Nelson, is shown with member Bob Bernier, and his daughter Hannah. Bob is also the commander of the North Branch VFW Post 6424.
