WWII Vet Signs Up at Post 85

90 Year old WWII Navy veteran, Lloyd Haroldson, decided it was high time that he joined the American Legion. Born in Alden Township, Wisconsin, Lloyd answered the call to fight in WWII in the US Navy. He was as an aviation ordinance technician flying in the Consolidated PB4Y-2 Privateer aircraft in a search and destroy mission for Nazi submarines in the Caribbean Sea. The retired carpenter is now residing at the Ecumen senior living community in North Branch.

2015 Member of the year award

Post 85 Adjutant Glenn Pierce was awarded the Member of the Year award at the annual Legion/VFW banquet on December 6th 2015. Presenting the award was Commander Darcy Doble, and selection committee chair Jim Johnson.

Post 85 member Everett Pearson receives award

North Branch resident and Post 85 Legionnaire Everett Pearson received his 70 year membership pin recently. Making the presentation is Post 85 Judge Advocate Orv Otterness (L), and Randy Koivisto (R) Post 85 membership chair.

Joint Legion / VFW Banquet - Sunday December 6th

It's that time of the year again! Post 85 will join with VFW Post 6424 for our annual banquet to be held at the Legion Hall. Social hour is from 6pm to 7pm, followed by dinner, and a short program. Cost is $15 per person, payable at the door. It's a time to recognize outstanding members and those in our community that have contributed to the success we've enjoyed this past year. It's also a time to remember those that have passed away since we last gathered together.

SOS breakfast Sunday November 1st

   Back by popular demand is our biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs breakfast. Serving from 7 am till noon. Prices are: Adults $7, under 12 $5, under 5 free.

Red Cross Blood Drive

On Friday July 31st, from Noon to 6pm, the Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at Post 85. Every presenting donor will receive a free T-shirt. For an appointment call 1-800-733-2767, or log on to and search by zip code 55056. A Drivers License, or a blood donor card is required.

10th District Convention May 30th, 2015

Post 85 is proud to host the annual MN American Legion 10th District Convention. This will be the first time that the event will be held on a single day. We expect hundreds of Legionnaires to attend on Saturday, May 30th. Kicking off with a memorial ceremony, then followed by voting for district officers and passage of resolutions, followed by a banquet in our hall. Our district spans the area from Bloomington to Willow River, and west to Buffalo, included in that area are 53 posts.

Memorial Day Schedule

Post 85 will be joined again by North Branch VFW Post 6424 for our 2015 Memorial Day ceremonies. Our Schedule for cemetery visits is as follows: Kost - 8:00 AM / Salem Lutheran - 9:15 AM / West Oxford - 9:30 AM / St. Johns Weber - 10:00 AM / Spring Lake Lutheran - 10:30 AM / North Branch Central Park - 11:30.

Our guest speaker this year in the North Branch Central Park will be Mr. Joe Mayne, past national commander of the Sons of the American Legion.
